HUNGARY – 8 DAYS A WEEK Highlights Tour & Spa

 

Day 1

Arrival at Budapest airport and transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Budapest.

 

Day 2

Budapest
Discover Budapest: You are in a city, called The Pearl of the Danube, and Eastern Paris. If You only had seen one postcard from Budapest – You want to see it in reality! Today s tour will include  the Castle district, the gothic Matthias church and Fishermen’s Bastion. Take pictures and look around. The next stop is the Citadel on the Gellért Hill, where the best panoramic view of Budapest can be seen. Go back to the Pest side on the Elizabeth Bridge to the Heroes’ Square, with  the Museum of Fine Art and a city park with Széchenyi Bath. Enjoy a walk along  Andrássy Avenue, which is a World Heritage site. See the Opera house and Budapest’s biggest church, the St Stephen’s Basilica. and the Parliament  Building!  Optionals: Visit the Széchenyi Bath, Parliament house tour. Overnight in Budapest.

 

Day 3  

Budapest - Visegrád (45km/50min) - Esztergom (23km/20min) - Budapest (50km/1h)
Explore Hungary`s history along the Danube river. Visit Visegrád and the 750 year-old ruins of the formal Royal Residence. Learn about life in the Middle Ages and enjoy the panorama of the Danube Valley. Continue to Esztergom, considered the Northern gate of Budapest and the center of the Catholic church. Visit Hungary`s largest cathedral, a resting place of famous Hungarian cardinals. Return to Budapest. Overnight in Budapest.

 

Day 4

Budapest – Gödöllő (30km/40 min) – Eger (110 km /1.30 min)
A summer palace of princess Sissi – breath of the Hungarian-Austrian Monarchy. The royal palace – a beautiful Baroque building - and its large park with horse stables and Riding school was built in the 1800’s for the wife of the Austrian Emperor. Have pictures taken in contemporary dress/suits. Continue on to Eger for lunch, Visit the ruins of a XIVth century fortress, with some information about the Hungarian battle against Ottoman Turks in the XV th century. Also visit the beautiful city of Eger.  Later: visit the Valley of Beautiful Women, taste wines from Eger’s regional winelands.  Eger is great Hungarian wine countryside and visitors  can sample local wines at the many local wine cellars.
Back to Budapest (130 km/1.40 min). Overnight in Budapest.
Optional: Wine tasting in the Valley of Beautiful Women.

 

Day 5   

Budapest – Héviz (195 km/2.30 min)
The Lake of Héviz is the largest biologically active, natural thermal lake of the world, the bottom of the lake is covered by mud, which used for medical treatments and packing. Effective healings for various types of medical problems such as Autoimmune,  gynecological and dermatological problems. On the way stop in Balatonfured, Tihany and Keszthely, all cities near Balaton lake Visit Keszthely city and Festetics Castle, XVIII c. baroque. Continue to Balatonfured, the capital of lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe. The most common words that describe this city are history, culture, wine, and hospitality.  Carry on to other place on the west side of Balaton – Tihany, see the old Benedictine abbey and monastery, which was founded in 1055, then walk around the village. Lunch in area. Check in to the best spa-hotel in Héviz.  Possibility for many procedures, massage, sauna, swimming pool recreation. Overnight in Héviz.

 

Day 6

Héviz 
Explore the idyllic landscape, the charming villages and the lake. Optional: Balaton lake boat cruise, spa- and  health procedures in Héviz.

 

Day 7

Héviz – Pécs (157 km/2 h)
Founded as Sopianae 2000 years ago by the Romans and known as Fünfkirchen by the Germans, today’s Pécs is a pleasant small (but still one of the largest in Hungary) university town. In 2000, the Early Cristian Necropolis of Pécs was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.  Pécs was one of the European Capitals of Culture in 2010.  Lunch in Pecs, explore the city, see the world-famous Zsolnai porcelain/ceramic manufacturers  first established in the 18th century.
Back to Budapest (Pécs-Budapest 190 km /2.30 min). Evening – Danube boat trip – Budapest by night + dinner. Overnight in Budapest.

 

Day 8

Budapest 
leisure time, afternoon transfer to the airport for final departure.
