POLAND REVIEW – GRAND TOUR IN 11 DAYS

 Spend 11 days on a grand tour visiting the main sites in Poland including Warsaw, Malbork, Gdansk and Krakow

 

DAY 1

WARSAW
Arrival at Warsaw airport and transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Warsaw.

 

DAY 2

WARSAW
A half-day city tour in Warsaw  the Capital of Poland.  You will see the Lazienki Park with its Frederic Chopin monument and the Palace on the Water, the majestic Royal Palace, the Jewish Ghetto and memorial monument, the Old Town with its 13-14th century houses, St. John Church, Palace of Culture and Science and the Barbican. Afternoon we have  free time and the possibility for an optional tour. Overnight in Warsaw.

 

DAY 3

WARSAW – MALBORK - GDANSK (405 KM/ 4.5 H.)
Trip from Warsaw to Malbork, the medieval fortress of Teutonic Knights, the greatest castle in Poland and one of the greatest in Europe! The Teutonic Order was founded around the year 1190 in Palestine at the time of  the Crusaders. In the early 14th century the Teutonic Knights moved their capital from Venice to Malbork, now Northern Poland. The red brick castle dates from 1274!  Evening arrival to Gdansk and check in at the hotel. Overnight in Gdansk.

 

DAY 4

GDANSK
Today we are in the amazing city on The Baltic Sea – Gdansk. Gdańsk is the historical capital of Gdansk Pomerania and dates back over 1000 years. In the Middle Ages, it became a prosperous trading port and a Free City between the Wars. It still has magnificent streets, Gothic churches and merchant houses. Gdansk city tour: Walk in the Old Town, see the Fountain of Neptune, Artus Court, Crane Gate, Green Gate, Golden Gate and High Gate. You will see the beautiful townhouses of Long Market, the Prison Tower, the Motlawa river and the most famous monument of Gdansk – St. Mary’ Church. Optionals: In the Gothic Cathedral in Oliwa you can listen to a concert on a baroque pipe organ. Overnight in Gdansk.

 

DAY 5

GDANSK - TORUN (166 km. 2 h.) – POZNAN (150 km, 2 h.)
After breakfast, we drive to Torun – one of the most beautiful cities of Poland, picturesquely located on the both banks of the Vistula River.  In 1997 the medieval part of the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2007 the Old Town in Torun was added to the list of Seven Wonders of Poland. In 2009 it was listed as one of the "Best Cities to Live in Poland", in a ranking published by Przekro.  Overnight in Poznan.

 

DAY 6

POZNAN – WROCLAW (165 KM. 2 H)
Poznan is known around the world for its important international trade-fair. But the city is also rich of cultural and historical monuments. A morning ride  for a guided tour of Poznan. Among the many famous places we are going to see will be the impressive Town Hall and the country’s oldest cathedral with the tombs of the first Polish rulers. Arrival in Wroclaw. Overnight in Wroclaw.

 

DAY 7

WROCLAW – KRAKOW (268 KM 3 H)
Walk in Wroclaw, which is known as the city of 100 bridges. Visit Ostrow Tunski island, which is the oldest part of the city, see the Gothic churches on the island, than see the old Market Square, its Gothic City Hall, surrounded by burgher houses, followed by a Wroclaw city tour.  Continue on to Krakow. Overnight in Krakow.

 

DAY 8

KRAKOW
Krakow is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Situated on the Vistula River in the Lesser Poland region, the city dates back to the 7th century. Krakow has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Polish academic, cultural, and artistic life and is one of Poland's most important economic hubs. It was the capital of Poland from 1038 to 1569. It is now the capital of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Half-day sightseeing in Krakow - Tthe Wawel Hill, the Royal Castle and the Coronation Cathedral, the burial place of kings and famous Poles, the Old Town surrounded by defense walls, the Barbican, the Market Square dominated by St. Mary’s Church with the famous XV c. linden wood altar, the Cloth Hall housing a multitude of souvenir shops. A special tour of Jagiellonian University, one of the oldest in Europe. Overnight in Krakow. 

 

DAY 9

KRAKOW - WIELICZKA – AUSCHWITZ - KRAKOW (160 km/2.30 min)
Morning: Visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine. This 800 year old salt mine is the oldest in Europe. Walk through the underground salt stone world: the splendid St. Kinga’s Chapel with salt sculptures and relics, corridors housing the original constructions and post excavation chambers as well as the subterranean salt lakes. After the tour we will continue our drive to Krakow, with a stopover in Lagiewniki, where we will visit the Lagiewniki Cathedral - Sister Faustyna’s Sanctuary of Divine Mercy. Next: we visit another historical place near Krakow - Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazi concentration camp and now a martyrdom museum. After this experience, we go back to Krakow to spend the evening in this beautiful old city. Overnight in Krakow.

 

DAY 10

KRAKOW – WARSAW (361 km/5 h) via CZESTOHOWA
All day trip back to Warsaw with a sightseeing break On the way back we stop in Czestohowa. The city of Czestohowa is a popular pilgrimage destination known for its monastery complex of Jasna Gora from the 16th century and the Black Madonna icon of the Virgin Mary from 6th century, believed to be miraculous. The Pauline monastery of Jasna Gora including the gothic Chapel of The Virgin, the baroque Church of the Holly Cross and Nativity of Mary and defensive walls, gates bastions. In the city there are amazing churches, beautiful town and parks. Overnight in Warsaw.

 

DAY 11

Leisure time, transfer to the airport for final departure
