DANUBE WALZER – VIENNA IMPERIAL IN 5 DAYS

 

Day 1

Arrival at Vienna and transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Vienna.

 

Day 2

Vienna Imperial tour with coffee brake Walk in and around the Hofburg, the Habsburg winter palace, a vast agglomeration from six centuries of building activity. See the incomparable collection of precious regalia and objects d’art in the Treasury, and the church of St Augustine. For more than 600 years, Hofburg was the political residence of the Habsburg dynasty and also the main residence of the imperial family. In the palace Hofburg we visit a Sisi Museum and the imperial apartments: 19 residential rooms and offices of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Drive around the Ringstrasse, the boulevard which encircles the old centre and is the locus classicus of historicist architecture. The Secession building, built in 1898 as an exhibition hall for avant-garde artists, contains Klimt’s Beethoven Frieze. Visit the Piaristenkirche, a Rococo church. Coffee and Cake at Café Central.  Vienna is famous for its coffee house culture, so head to legendary Café Central, where coffee and a piece of delicious cake will be waiting for you. Located near Hofburg Palace, this elegant 19th-century café is known for being the former meeting point of famous figures such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud and Leo Trotzki. Afternoon: Walk through the Roman and mediaeval core to see a cross-section of architecture including Gothic and Baroque churches and some of Vienna’s most enchanting street scapes. See the magnificently displayed collection of imperial tableware and the glorious library hall by Fischer von Erlach. The baroque state hall of the Austrian National Library in Vienna is one of the most beautiful historical libraries in the world. Built 1723 – 1726. Overnight in Vienna.

 

Day 3

Vienna Walzer Tour. Vienna-Eisenstadt-Baden-Loxemburg-Vienna (85 km/1.20 min)
Visit the Eszterhazy Palace, near Vienna. Composing operas was one of Haydn’s principal tasks for satisfying the distinct need of Prince Nikolaus I., the "Magnificent", for representative opera performances. Original programs for opera performances in Eszterhazy and a manuscript, in which Haydn charges for his services for composing his first opera "Acide" in 1763, impressively illustrate the musical life lived by the master at the Eszterhazy Palace. On our way back to Vienna, we stop in Baden. Amidst the sun-kissed wine growing thermal region Vienna Woods, 26 km south of Vienna, the elegant music and shopping city of Baden invites you for a visit. Once an imperial summer residence, Baden is an amazing experience!.  Next stop just before arrive in Vienna is Laxemburg. Situated in the middle of wonderful parkland some 17km south of Vienna, Schloss Laxenburg is a prime example of 18th century garden artistry. Full of wonderful canals, bridges and monuments, the garden is one of Austria's finest pieces of landscaping. The architectural highlight is the stunning 14th century castle which stands in the center of the grounds. The castle was a favorite residence of the Habsburgs, which explains why you will find an imperial railway station here. In the emperor’s castle Sisi spend here her honeymoon here after her wedding… Back to Vienna in late afternoon. Dinner and Strauss and Mozart Concer.t Indulge in a traditional Viennese 3-course lunch or dinner and a complimentary glass of sparkling wine at the traditional Weiner restaurant, in the famous building of Rathause. Then, enjoy an incredible Strauss and Mozart concert at the Kursalon, an opulent pavilion built during imperial times. Listen to famous melodies of Johann Strauss and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played by the Vienna Kursalon Orchestra - a truly memorable evening!  Overnight in Vienna.

 

Day 4

Vienna – Schönbrunn Palace & Park
The magnificent Schönbrunn Palace was the summer residence of the imperial family, it was built in Rococo style, furnished extravagantly, and it became the centre of the Monarchy under Empress Maria Theresa. Today Schönbrunn is one of the most important cultural monuments in Austria and is protected as part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage. Along with Versailles near Paris, Schönbrunn Palace with its grand park is one of the most charming Baroque total works of art in Europe. Depending on the tour, up to 40 impressive state rooms convey an idea of the life of the imperial family – from Maria Theresa to Franz Joseph. The oldest zoo in the world, Schönbrunn Animal Park is embedded in the Baroque parks of the summer residence. Free time in late afternoon. Overnight in Vienna.

Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Some free time and transfer to the airport for final departure
