Join us on a tour of discovery and exploration in the countries of the former Yugoslavia to enjoy the scenic beauty, culture and legend of this area.

 

 

 

Day 1 

Bucharest

Arrival at the airport, meet, assist and transfer to hotel.

 

Day 2

Full day guided tour. You will visit the Parliament Palace, the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon and the Village Museum, also called “Romania in a nut shell”. Proceed to the Romanian Athenaeum, the Opera House, the National Military Club, the Military Academy and the Triumphal Arch.

 

Day 3 

Bucharest – Sinaia (125km/2h30min) – Brasov (45km/40min)

Leave this morning for a stop in Sinaia in the Prahova Valley. This is a lovely ski resort, almost 3,300 feet above sea level. While in Sinaia there will be time to visit the Sinaia Monastry and Peles Castle, used during the dictatorship of Ceausescu to entertain his cronies. Only a few more miles and you reach Brasov, a lovely medieval town and famous for its town square, studded with baroque architecture and outdoor cafes.

 

Day 4 

Brasov – Bran (30km/30min) – Sighisoara (140km/2h30min)

Today start with a guided city tour of Brasov before crossing over to Bran village for the highlight of your trip, the famous Dracula castle. It was built in 1377 and inhabited by Vlad the Impaler - better known as Dracula before we head north to Sighisoara. A medieval town with 11 towers. Standing within the city walls which surround cobbledstone streets, ancient houses and churches, it is one of Romania's preffiest towns. Legend has it that it is also the birthplace of the notorious Vlad, (Dracula). Have a half day guided walking tour of this beautiful city which includes the Clock Tower and the History Museum. Wrapping up your Translylvanian outing. Transfer to Sighisoara for overnight.

 

Day 5 

Sighisoara – Szeged (448km/5h30min)

Today leave Romania and head towards southern Hungary to the city of Szeged, also known as the Sun City due to its long hours of Sunshine. Visit the Szeged Synagogue and the City Hall of Szeged.

 

DAY 6

SZEGED – PECS (189km/3h30min)

Today explore the old town to visit the Cathedral Square and the Votive Church of Szeged before leaving some free time for some souveniors of Hungary. In the afternoon proceed to Pecs, the fourth largest city in Hungary for your overnight stay.

 

Day 7 

PECS – ZAGREB (234km/4h)

Leave Hungary and travel to Zagreb, capital of Croatia since its independence in 1991. The guided sightseeing tour will include the Upper and Lower town. Visit Mirogoj Park Cemetery, whose sculptures and pavilions by architect Hermann Bolle make it one of Europe's most beautiful memorial parks, the Cathedral of St Stephen with roots dating back 1,000 years and the colourful, open air Dolac Market.

 

DAY 8

ZAGREB – LJUBLJANA (143km/3h)

Today continue to the capital of Slovenia - Ljubljana. The city of Ljubljana is famous for its diverse architecture - including legacies of the Roman. Baroque and Art Nouveau eras - but owes much of its grand style to native born architect Joza Plecnik, whose vision early in the 20th century transformed his provincial hometown into the capital of the Slovenian nation. Visit the old town to view the Opera house, Cathedral, National Museum and Castle.

 

DAY 9

LJUBLJANA - PLITVICE NATIONAL PARKS (260km/4h)

A drive through the Croatian highland from Slovenia to Croatia reveals splendid alpine scenery on the way to one of Europe's most impressive National Parks - Plitvice Lakes, which was granted Heritage site status by UNESCO in 1979. The beauty of the National Park lies in its sixteen lakes, inter-connected by a series of waterfalls, and set in deep woodland populated by deer, bears, wolves, boars and rare bird species. Enjoy a scenic cruise.

 

DAY 10

PLITVICE – SPLIT (273km/4h20min)

Drive through the Croatian countryside to Split. Founded by the Emperor Diocletian in AD 305 when he built a palace for his retirement and as the palace grew, so did the city.  With a local guide, enjoy an in depth sightseeing tour of this gracious city by the sea. Visit Diocletian's Palace - a well preserved fortress that was once encircled by 750 foot walls.  Highlights include remains of the original palace, a colonnaded square and the Temple of Jupiter.

 

DAY 11

SPLIT – DUBVRONIK (227km/3h30min)

The highlight of your trip is the drive along the Dalmatian coastal route from Split to Dubvronik. Have a half day guided tour of the city. See the Rector's Palace, the City Walls, Onofrio's fountain and the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Dubvronik and its five bastions are sure to cast a spell on you.

 

DAY 12

DUBVRONIK – SARAJEVO (239km/3h30min)

Depart Croatia for Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Along the way there will be an excursion to Mostar. Sarajevo is surrounded by the Dinaric Alps and bisected by the Miljacka River. You will embark on a walking tour of this city. Explore the old town and visit the Tunnel of Salvation, a war-time escape and food supply route for Sarajevo's brave citizens.

 

DAY 13 

Transfer to the airport for your final departure.
