Grand Tour of Northern Italy 9 Days

 

Day 1

Rome
Arrival at the airport and transfer to hotel.

 

Day 2

Rome-Assisi (200km/2h30min)-Siena (150km/1h30min)-Florence (100km/1h)
Drive to Assisi, the mystic town of Saint Francis still surrounded by ancient walls. Visit the Basilica of Saint Francis with its early Renaissance masterpieces by Giotto and Cimabue. Proceed on to Siena, the beautiful medieval city renown for the Palio. Continue to Florence for overnight.

 

Day 3

Florence
Today have a guided sightseeing tour of the cradle of the Renaissance. Visit the beautiful Piazza del Duomo, the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Fiore, Giotto`s Bell Tower, the Baptistery of St. John, the Academy of Fine Arts Gallery housing the “David” by Michelangelo, and Santa Croce, the 13th century Franciscan church with Cimabue`s famous crucifix. Rest of the day at leisure for optional sightseeing or shopping.Overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 4

Florence-Padua (250km/2h30min)-Venice (50km/1h)
Continue to Padua, where you will visit the famous Cathedral of St. Anthony, guarded by Donatello`s “Gattamelata”. Continue on to Venice, and upon arrival enjoy a guided bus tour of this unique city. You will see the Piazza and Basilica of St. Mark, the Doge`s Palace, the Bridge of Sighs and the Prisons. Overnight.

 

Day 5

Venice
Have a two-hour walking tour highlighting all the important monuments, from San Marco Square to the Rialto Bridge. You'll learn the history behind the famous landmarks, including the basilica's Byzantine heritage and the adjoining prisons of the Doge's Palace. Plus, you'll visit the famed basilica of St. Mark's. Highlights also include Campo Santa Maria Formosa and Marco Polo's House. Overnight.

 

Day 6

Venice-Verona (150km/2h)-Lake Como (200km/2h)
Morning departure for Verona to see the town of Romeo and Juliet. You'll have free time to explore the narrow streets lined with impressive medieval and Renaissance buildings in Verona's historic center. Then continue on to Como. Overnight.

 

Day 7

Como-Milan (50km/1h)-San Marino (500km/5h)
Departure to Milan and have panoramic tour of the city. See the highlights of this lovely town including the impressive Duomo, Castello Sforzesco, Royal Palace, La Scala Theatre and the shopper's paradise - Galleria Vittorio Emmanuelle. Proceed on to San Marino via Bologna, one of Italy`s most important art cities. Visit this fascinating medieval town with its charming squares Piazza Maggiore and Piazza del Nettuno. Proceed to San Marino, the world`s smallest and oldest independent Republic, founded in the year 301, as a Christian sanctuary. Overnight.

 

Day 8

San Marino –Perugia (100km/2h) - Rome (200km/2h)
Departure to Perugia, a charming university town. Visit the impressve Cathedral and the Palazzo dei Priori. Proceed to Rome.

 

Day 9

Rome
Departure to airport.
