Day 1

Sofia
Arrival at the airport. Transfer to the hotel.

 

Day 2

Sofia
Explore the city that has a 7000-year long history. Visit the National History Museum and the Boyana Church which is one of Bulgaria's most significant historical treasures. Visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Rotunda of St George and the Russian Church as well as the Banya Bashi Mosque and the Great Synagogue.

 

Day 3

Sofia - Rila Monastery 90km/2h - Sandanski 80km/1h30min - Melnik
Departure to the famous Rila Monastery, the biggest spiritual and cultural centre in Bulgaria. Continue to the picturesque town of Sandanski, one of the best Bulgarian spa resorts. Arrival in Melnik, an architectural reserve.

 

Day 4

Melnik - Bansko 100km/2h - Velingrad 70km/1h30min
Departure to Bansko,  a beautiful town and famous ski resort. Continue to Velingrad, one of the most popular balneological resorts.

 

Day 5

Velingrad - Plovdiv 80km/1h30min
Drive to Plovdiv, one of the oldest and most colorful towns in Bulgaria. Enjoy a walk in the Old Town. Explore the 2000 years old Roman Theatre, the Ethnographic Museum, the Byzantine and medieval fortifications.

 

Day 6

Plovdiv - Kazanlak 140km/2h - Sozopol 220km/3h
Travel to Kazanlak, the main city of the famous Rose Valley. Visit the Rose museum. Continue to the Thracian beehive tomb, a UNESCO Heritage Site.  Departure to the sea town of  Sozopol.  Explore the Old town, the Church and the Amphitheatre.

 

Day 7

Sozopol - Nesebar 70km/1h - Varna 100km/1h30min
Travel to the beautiful Nesebar, full of medieval churches. Departure to Varna,  the major Bulgarian city on the coast of the Black Sea.  Walk in the Sea Garden. Visit the Aquarium and the Dolphinarium as well as the Archaeological Museum and the large and well preserved Roman Baths.

 

Day 8

Varna - Veliko Turnovo 230km/3h
Explore the capital of Medieval Bulgaria, Veliko Tarnovo. Go to the Tsarevets Royal hill above the river Yantra. Go to the Samovodska market place and continue to Arbanassi museum village, a genuine gallery of art.

 

Day 9

Veliko Tarnovo - Etara 50km/1h - Gabrovo - Veliko Tarnovo 50km/1h
Visit the open-air Etara Ethnographic Museum that presents the Bulgarian culture. Continue to Garbrovo and the House of Humour and Satire, which covers the reputation of the locals for being skinflints. Travel to Shipka Pass and the Shipka Memorial Church. Back to Veliko Tarnovo.

 

Day 10

Veliko Tarnovo - Troyan 100km/1h30min - Sofia 170km/2h30min
Travel to the Troyan Pass. Visit the Troyan Monastery. Back to Sofia.

 

Day 11

Sofia 
Transfer to the airport.
