Scotland - The Special

 

Day 1

Edinburgh
Arrival at the airport in Edinburgh. Transfer to the hotel.

 

Day 2

Edinburgh – Inveraray (180km./2h.30min.) – Tarbet – Kilmartin (90km./1h.30min.) – Bowmore (60km./2h.30min.)
Enjoy travelling through the picturesque Loch Lomond National Park. Visits Inveraray, famous for its distinctive white buildings on the loch shore that make it photogenic. See the Inveraray Castle, a magnificent Scottish castle and ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll that provides a unique Scottish visitor experience. Go to  Loch Fyne that extends 65 kilometres inland from the Sound of Bute, making it the longest of the sea lochs which was once  the Kingdom of Dalriada. See  the Kilmartin standing stones, of which a 13' high stone standing 18' SW of the largest of 4 cairns. Catch the ferry to Islay. Departure to Bowmore.

 

Day 3

Bowmore – Ardnave Point – Kilchoman – Portnahaven - Bowmore
The tour starts by going to the lovely sandy bays of the west coast. Continue to Islay's, most beautiful bay, also known as Saligo Bay. Cross the dunes with its abundance of rabbits and descend to reach the breathtaking beach. The bay is a favourite photography spot . Visit the Kilchoman Distillery. This is a unique  opportunity to see all the best in the grass-roots traditions of malt whisky distilling – from barley to bottle. Next stop is the Machair Bay to enjoy the scenery and then continue to the tiny harbour village of Portnahaven and the Islay Museum, that holds a unique collection of items from the Isle of Islay and is a must for every visitor to get a better understanding of local life.

 

Day 4

Bowmore – Laphroaig – Lagavulin – Ardbeg – Kildalton - Bowmore
Departure to Laphroaig and Lagavulin, some of the oldest distilleries on Islay. Try The whisky with a powerful, peat-smoke aroma, described as being robustly full-bodied, well balanced, and smooth, with a slight sweetness on the palate. The next stop is Ardbeg, that has the most peaty malt whisky in the world . Continue to the ruins of Kildalton church with its famous 8th Century Celtic cross. Visit the community craft producers at Islay House Square and then the woodlands along the River Sorn.

 

Day 5

Bowmore – Kilmartin (60km./2h.30min.) – Oban – Edinburgh (200km./2h.)
Take the ferry back to Argyll and the ancient Kingdom of Dalriada. Continue to the Kilmartin museum. There are more than 350 ancient monuments within a six-mile radius of the village of Kilmartin and 150 of them are prehistoric.  Next stop is in Oban, also known as the 'Gateway to the Isles'. Enjoy the picturesque scenery and tranquility of the place. Back to Edinburgh.

 

Day 6

Transfer to the airport.
