Iceland Complete Summer Tour
Day 1
Reykjavik
Arrive in Reykjavik and transfer to hotel on your own.
Day 2
Geysir - Gullfoss Waterfall – Vik (270km/3h30min)
Start the day with a short city sightseeing of Reykjavík. From Reykjavík head through the village of Hveragerði to explore Gullfoss, the ‘Golden Waterfall’, and the nearby Geyser hot spring area to see the famous Geyser as well as Strokkur, and numerous other hot springs and boiling mud pools. Continue along the south shore and stop to admire the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss before continuing to Dyrhólaey* nature reserve. Continue to the village of Vík.
Day 3
Kirkjubaejarklaustur - Skaftafell National Park – Hofn (270km3h30min)
Cross Eldhraun, the largest mass of lava ever to flow on earth, before reaching the small village Kirkjubaejarklaustur, the former site of a 12th-century Catholic convent. The tour continues over Skeioararsandur sands to Skaftafell National Park. Continue to Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon to see the birthplace of icebergs. Overnight in Hofn area.
Day 4
Egilsstadir (160km/2h)
From Hofn drive through the Almannaskaro pass, stop and admire the majestic coastline and view. On to the towering mountains plunging vertically into the sea that form the magnificent East Fjords. Linger over the renowned Petra's stone collection.
Day 5
Lake Myvatn (100km/1h30min)
Explore the empty vastness of the highland desert plateau Möðrudalsöræfi, heading to the Lake Mývatn area. Visit Námaskarð pass with its boiling mud pools and vibrant colours. Explore the natural beauty of the Lake Mývatn area, including the peculiar lava formations at Dimmuborgir, the pseudo craters at Skútustaðir and Laxá salmon river.
Day 6
Akureyri (50km/1h)
Head towards the bustling northern port of Akureyri with a stop at the magnificent Godafoss waterfall. Akureyri boasts some of the finest timber buildings in the country, beautifully restored to their original glory.
Day 7
Skagafjordur – Borgarfjordur (50km/1h)
Majestic mountains and narrow passes lead to Skagafjorour for an introduction of the unique Icelandic horse, with its fifth gait - the tolt. Towards the village of Blonduos built on both sides of the river Blanda with Hrutey Island a protected nature reserve located in this popular salmon river. Cross the Holtvorduheidi plateau through Borgarfjordur to the beautiful town of Borganes.
Day 8
Borgarfjordur - Thingvellir – Reykjavik (290km/4h30min)
Drive to Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in the world. A stop will be made to admire the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfalls, before continuing over the breathtaking Kaldidalur mountain pass. The journey continues to Lake Þingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest lake, and Þingvellir National Park, the ancient site of the world’s first parliament held outdoors. Overnight in Reykjavík.
Day 9
Reykjavik
Transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
